Fantastic Mr. Fox

articleLarge

Wes Anderson's brilliant adaptation of Roald Dahl's popular book is a wonderful – and very teachable – film.  Each frame is rich in incidental detail, and a wide range of film techniques is employed.  The film is aimed at older children and adults rather than the age group the book was written for, and has been one of the most rewarding films I have worked with.

Anderson has stayed faithful to the basic storyline as well as the feel and spirit of the original, but has expanded both the plot and the themes.

Roald Dahl's widow Felicity believes that her late husband would most definitely have approved of the way his book was adapted.  "When I was watching the finished film, I thought, He'd love this," she says.  "I could feel him smiling.  My breath was taken away, I have to say.  When I came out of the screening, I immediately emailed Wes and said, 'This is a masterpiece.'  It is fantastic; I couldn't get over the wit in it, but also the beauty.  The visual side of the film is just breathtaking."
